This hands-on, one-day workshop covers essential strobe techniques, giving you the confidence to experiment and create compelling, professional-quality images.

By the end of this course, you will have the skills to set up and shoot your own three-point strobe portrait, applying key lighting techniques to achieve professional results.

Course Highlights:

1. Fundamentals of Strobe Lighting

  • Understand flash duration, power settings, and synchronization methods.

  • Learn how strobes differ from continuous lighting and natural light.

2. Equipment Overview

  • Get hands-on experience with studio strobes and portable flash units.

  • Learn about essential accessories: softboxes, umbrellas, reflectors, and triggers.

3. Strobe Lighting Techniques

  • Master key, fill, and accent lighting setups.

  • Explore techniques for balanced, flattering, and dynamic lighting in portrait and product photography.

  • Apply what you've learned by setting up and shooting your own three-point strobe portrait.

Class Requirements:

  • Must be able to operate a DSLR or digital camera in manual mode.

  • Digital camera, batteries, charger, and memory cards.

  • Minimum of 4 participants.

About the Instructor

Ross Anderson is an award-winning photographer specializing in fashion and beauty photography. His work has received numerous accolades, including the APA Grand Prize Award and the International Loupe Awards Grand Prize. Ross was recognized in Creative Quarterly’s Best 100 in 2018 and 2025, and his photography has been exhibited in galleries across the US, Europe, and Asia.

Class Withdrawal, Cancellation & Refund Policy

  • Full payment is required at registration.

  • If the class is full, you will be placed on a waitlist.

  • Notice of withdrawal must be given at least two weeks in advance:

    • You may transfer to the next scheduled class at no cost.

    • A 50% refund is available if preferred.

  • No refunds for withdrawals made less than two weeks before the class.

  • Transfers may be made up to one week in advance.

  • No refunds for no-shows.
