EMPTY PLACES : ABANDONED SPACES

Entry Deadline | Sept. 30, 2024, 11:59PM CST

Notice of Acceptance | Oct. 12, 2024, 4PM CST

Exhibition Dates |  Nov 16 – Dec 14, 2024

THEME: Empty Places : Abandoned Spaces  | JUROR: Robi Chakraborty

Through the visual representation of abandoned spaces, artifacts of history are at once new but decayed, ancient yet fresh. The past takes on new life in these forsaken, ruined, or empty spaces as we wonder, Who were the people who lived and worked here? What were their lives like? What were their stories? Where did they go?

Praxis Gallery seeks photographic art that explores the visual and social significance of what is left behind, in which crumbling factories, derelict churches, private homes, and other empty places serve as the basis for creative investigation. All genres, capture types, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission. Juried by Robi Chakroborty

Juror: : Robi Chakroborty

Robi is a photographer deeply committed to documenting the rapidly changing landscapes of his native India. His work seeks to capture the essence of the people and cultures that are slowly fading in the face of modernization. Now based in the United States, Robi brings a unique perspective shaped by years of living in Africa, Nepal, and India. This global experience allows him to view his subjects both as an insider, deeply connected to the culture, and as an outsider, offering a fresh, unbiased perspective.

Robi’s work has been recognized with numerous awards, including Photographer of the Year from the International Color Awards and the Director’s Choice Award from Photo Place Gallery. His work has been exhibited at the Center for Fine Art Photography, Rayko, Alliance Française, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Washington, DC.

Though he resides in the US, Robi frequently returns to India, continuing his exploration of its diverse states, people, and traditions. His photography serves as a testament to the rich, vibrant cultures that define India, ensuring they are not forgotten. https://robiphotography.com
